What's New With Jack?

Defunded Not Defeated: How a Platform Under Attack Makes an Impact is an audio documentary that I produced for my senior Capstone project at The University of Olivet. The project also acts as my final college assignment. It was first aired on WOCR 89.1 FM, UO's student-run radio station, on April 23, 2026.
For this project, my fellow seniors and I were asked to create something that was not only relevant to us, whether it be personal or professional (or both, in my case), but this project also had to be a multimedia production, meaning that there needed to be audio, visual, AND written components. We had to start thinking about it in the fall semester, and first pitched our ideas at the end of that semester. We officially got rolling on our projects this semester.
Defunded Not Defeated is project that looks at how stations and their audiences have been impacted by the $1.1 billion of funding that was stripped from public broadcasting, as well as what public broadcasting offers, in general. I interviewed five people across the nation (as far west as Washington state and as far south as North Carolina), in order to gain more insight on a national issue such as this.
This project really means a lot to me. Not only is it a dream of mine to work for a public radio station, but it was public broadcasting that made me interested in media, to begin with. To put it simply, I would not be here, and you would not be reading this, or consuming any of the relevant media below, and so on, without public broadcasting.
I hope you enjoy the elements linked below. I truly put my heart and soul into this project, as I used my already established media expertise, while also trying some new things, as well. Thanks for reading this, and I hope that you learn something new about how public broadcasting serves the audience that it was meant to serve in the first place.
